Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing is a game-changer in the world of minimally invasive facial treatments. It uses focused wavelengths of light to target specific skin issues, helping you achieve a smoother, more youthful complexion. There are generally two types of laser treatments: those that improve skin texture and those that address pigment or color. However, some do a little of bothLet’s check out some of the options we offer.
Lasers That Primarily Treat Texture
- CO2 Laser
- How it works: The CO2 laser uses short pulses of energy to produce heat in both the outer layer (epidermis) and inner layer (dermis) of the skin. This selectively removes skin – polishing down fine lines and wrinkles – and promotes the growth of new collagen.
- Benefits: This cosmetic procedure is excellent for smoothing fine lines, wrinkles and textural issues caused by aging, sun exposure, acne scars, and more! It can also help with uneven tone and discoloration.
- Recovery: While the results can be dramatic, the CO2 laser typically requires a longer recovery period than other laser treatments due to its more intensive nature. Patients can be swollen, peeling and uncomfortable for up to 2 weeks, and can experience redness for 2+ weeks, depending on individual factors.
- Erbium: YAG Laser
- How it works: This laser also removes the outer layers of skin, but it delivers energy in a way that removes skin with less heat than the CO2 laser. To achieve similar results to the CO2 laser typically requires a more intensive setting. However, this increased precision causes less damage to the surrounding tissues compared to the CO2 laser.
- Benefits: When used properly, it has a similar impact to a CO2 laser, but has more flexibility and perhaps precision. The Erbium: YAG laser is thought to be a slightly better option for scar treatment, and can generally be used more safely in patients with darker skin types.
- Recovery: The downtime can be slightly shorter compared to that of the CO2 laser; however, for the first several days, there is usually more swelling, discoloration, and skin changes.
- HALO Laser
- How it works: To understand the HALO laser, you must know what ablative and non-ablative lasers are. Ablative lasers remove the outer layer of skin, while non-ablative lasers work beneath the surface to stimulate collagen growth without removing the skin. The HALO laser is unique because it combines both wavelengths, allowing it to target multiple skin concerns simultaneously.
- Benefits: It reduces skin irregularities, scars, pore size, wrinkles, and fine lines. In some cases, it can also treat pigmentation.
- Recovery: The hybrid nature of the HALO laser typically results in a balanced treatment with moderate downtime – typically around one week – making it a versatile and popular choice for yearly maintenance.
Lasers That Primarily Treat Pigment Or Color
- Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) (commonly known as VBeam)
- How it works: The PDL uses a concentrated beam of light that is preferentially absorbed by red. As such, this targets superficial blood vessels – the cause of most skin redness – and causes them to shrink and fade.
- Benefits: PDL is thought to have some anti-aging effect, but its primary use is to treat redness associated with inflammatory processes like rosacea and scars.
- Recovery: PDL recovery is relatively mild compared to other lasers. Temporary increased redness can occur, and occasionally some bruising, both of which can last up to 1 week.
- Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) (commonly known as BroadBand Light (BBL) or “photo facial”)
- How it works: Although technically not a laser, IPL primarily works by producing multiple wavelengths to target different colors in the skin, to treat skin tone and some texture.
- Benefits: This treatment can address age spots, freckles, redness, and vascular lesions, providing a more uniform skin tone.
- Recovery: Depending on the treatment performed, patients can expect anywhere from 3-10 days of recovery, including redness, swelling and crusting.
- Picosecond (Pico) Laser
- How it works: Pico emits ultra-short pulses of relatively heatless energy, targeting pigment and stimulating collagen.
- Benefits: It’s effective for treating freckles, blemishes, unwanted tattoos, and other skin discoloration and can also promote collagen stimulation.
- Recovery: Pico recovery varies depending on what is being treated and how its being used. On average, the recovery is generally less intense and shorter than other laser therapies.
Radiofrequency
Radiofrequency treatments are a popular choice for those seeking to rejuvenate and tighten their skin without the need for invasive surgeries like facelifts, neck lifts, eyelid surgery, brow lifts, liposuction, and more. These cosmetic procedures use radiofrequency energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin, boosting collagen production and improving skin elasticity. Two standout options in this category are FaceTite and Morpheus8, each offering unique benefits tailored to different skin concerns.
FaceTite
This radiofrequency treatment is like a magic wand for sagging skin and stubborn fat pockets. Once inserted under the skin, FaceTite uses a small probe (the magic wand) to deliver controlled radiofrequency energy that can melt fat and tighten the surrounding tissues. This dual action reduces unwanted fat and encourages collagen production for a youthful appearance.
A well-loved benefit of the minimally invasive FaceTite cosmetic procedure is that you’ll have a quick recovery with perhaps a little swelling and bruising — perfect for those who need less dramatic change and don’t have time for an uncomfortable healing process or longer-lasting side effects.
Some concerns FaceTite can tackle are:
- Sagging skin and soft tissue
- Excess fat deposits
- Jowls
- Submental fat (double chin)
- Loose/crepey neck skin
Morpheus8
Morpheus8 is a special two-for-one cosmetic procedure that combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to target both surface and deeper skin issues without damaging the skin or requiring a lengthy recovery period. This combo is a powerhouse for stimulating collagen and elastin, which are crucial for maintaining flawless skin and removing unwanted fat.
Another cool thing about Morpheus8 is that we can personalize the depth that the microneedles puncture to suit your needs and skin type. Whether you want to smooth out acne scars or treat fine lines, wrinkles and pore size, Morpheus8 has got you covered.
Injectables
Injectables are a well-known cosmetic procedure for treating fine lines and wrinkles, but their capabilities go far beyond that. These quick, versatile treatments can also serve as effective alternatives to more invasive cosmetic procedures like facelifts, rhinoplasty, liposuction and fat grafting. By using fillers and other injectables, you can achieve a more youthful, contoured look with minimal downtime and no surgery.
Botox for Wrinkle Reduction
One of the most popular injectables is a brand name you’ve more than likely heard of — it’s Botox! This go-to solution for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles relaxes the facial muscles that cause creases so it can soften the appearance of common concerns like crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles. Botox results last around two to four months, making it a stress-free, easy-to-maintain choice for those who want a more youthful look with minimal effort.
Botox for Facial Slimming
Injectables can significantly enhance facial contours by targeting specific areas to reduce fullness and create a more defined look. This non-surgical approach can slim down areas such as the cheeks and jawline, giving your face a more sculpted and balanced appearance. It’s an excellent option for those looking to refine their facial proportions without the need for invasive surgery.
Fillers for Facial Contouring
Another type of injectables are fillers. Fillers can play a significant role in sculpting and balancing your facial features, creating a more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing look that complements your natural beauty. By adding volume to specific areas, such as the cheeks, chin, or jawline, fillers help define facial contours, improve overall facial harmony, and lessen the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and hollow skin.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Non-surgical rhinoplasty, or a liquid nose job, uses fillers to reshape and contour the nose. Depending on the patient, this treatment can correct minor imperfections, even out bumps, and improve overall symmetry without surgery.
