What Is a Facelift?

As we age, various factors such as sun exposure, smoking, weight gain and loss, daily stress, and, of course, our own genetic makeup cause your skin to lose its tone and elasticity, resulting in the aging of our face and neck.

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a procedure designed to reverse the visible signs of facial aging and restore youthful contours to your face and neck by:

  • Removing excess sagging skin and excess fat deposits
  • Tightening the muscle layer and deep underlying tissues
  • Redraping the skin of your face and neck

Although a facelift won't stop the natural aging process, it helps correct wrinkles, expression lines, and other visible signs of aging in the face and neck.

Why Choose a Facelift?

Arlington facial surgery is one of the best ways to fight the signs of aging by giving you a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance that can take decades off of your appearance. A facelift procedure tightens the skin around the face, helping to get rid of unsightly skin folds, drooping jowls, loose skin, and excess fat.

Just like no two faces are the same, facelift procedures don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach. That’s why Dr. Cabin tailors your facelift surgery to your unique needs and aesthetic goals to ensure you get the balanced, natural-looking appearance you deserve.

How Is Facelift Surgery Performed?

Dr. Cabin will typically perform your Arlington facelift surgery as an outpatient surgery. The procedure should take about three to four hours to complete, and you’ll be under general anesthesia for the duration of the surgery.

During your facelift, Dr. Cabin will:

  • Make his initial incisions and separate the facial and neck skin from underlying tissue and muscle
  • Reposition facial and neck tissue and muscle while removing excess skin as needed
  • Lay the remaining skin over the facial and neck tissue and muscle

The facelift recovery process takes several weeks to complete. At this time, you may experience bruising, swelling, and other short-term side effects. Dr. Cabin will provide aftercare instructions that you’ll need to follow closely to get the best possible facelift results.

Dr. Cabin will also request that you see him for post-surgery appointments so he can track your facelift results and ensure that your recovery stays on course.

Is a Facelift Right for You?

In general, you might be a candidate for facelift surgery if you’re unhappy with your face and want to reverse the signs of aging caused by:

  • Loose skin
  • Loss of facial volume or collagen
  • Sagging or drooping skin
  • Prominent lines and wrinkles
  • Asymmetrical, or unbalanced, facial features

However, the best way to determine if a facelift surgery can help you reach your aesthetic goals is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Cabin.

Why Choose
Dr. Cabin?

During your facelift surgery consultation, Dr. Cabin will evaluate your facial features and discuss your treatment goals. He also uses the Aging Arc, a state-of-the-art tool that visually defines the natural aging process relative to a patient’s chronological age.

This cutting-edge device can measure the age of your face based solely on your appearance rather than relying on your chronological age. If you fall within a negative range on the Aging Arc, it means you appear older than your actual age.

Dr. Cabin wants you to fall within a positive range on this scale, so if your health history and aesthetic goals qualify you for a facelift, Dr. Cabin is happy to create a comprehensive, customized plan and perform the procedure to help you get the youthful, balanced look you want.

What Your Facelift Recovery Will Look Like

Facelift surgery is a complicated procedure, so your recovery process can take some time to complete. You’ll also need to remember that results vary from patient to patient — and because each individual is unique, you may heal at a different rate than other facelift patients.

You should expect bruising, swelling, facial tightness, muscle weakness, and ear numbness following your facelift procedure. Your facial muscle weakness should go away after a day or two, and the bruising and swelling should subside after one to two weeks.

You can expect to return to work around two weeks after your surgery, and you should be able to get back to strenuous activity around the three-week mark.

Even after your initial healing process is complete, you may still experience some slight side effects or secondary healing occurring for up to six months after your facelift procedure.
